The USA is composed of 50 states. It occupies the central part of the North American continent.

It borders on Canada to the north and on Mexico to the south.

The Atlantic Ocean marks the East Coast of the USA, and the Pacific Ocean, the West Coast.

The Hawaiian Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean. They became the 50th state of the USA in 1958.

The total area of the country is 9,826,630 sq km of total area.

The population is more than 200 million people. Washington DC is the American capital.

English is the official language. The flag of the USA is known as the “Stars and Stripes”.

The Rocky Mountains extend from Northern British Columbia Canada 4830 km to the southwestern USA, to the state of New Mexico. Alaska, although part of the continental United States, it is not part of the contiguous United States. Whereas Hawaii is separated by all ocean from the other states, Alaska is bordered by Yukon and British Columbia,

Canada to the east, the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean to the south, the Bering Sea, Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea to the west, and the Beaufort Sea and the Arctic Ocean to the north. So both states share this commonality of separation from the contiguous states.

There are many rivers in USA and the longest is the Mississippi.

The United States includes a wide variety of climate types due to its large size, range of geographic features, and non-contiguous arrangement. In the contiguous United States to the east of the 100th meridian, the climate ranges from humid continental in the north to humid subtropical in the south. The southern tip of Florida is tropical. The Great Plains west of the 100th meridian are semi-arid. Much of the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada, and the Cascade Range are alpine. The climate is arid in the Great Basin, desert in the Southwest, Mediterranean in coastal California, and oceanic in coastal Oregon and Washington. The state of Alaska, on the northwestern corner of the North American continent, is largely subarctic, with an oceanic climate in its southern edge and a polar climate in the north. The archipelago state of Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, is tropical. Extreme weather is not uncommon-the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico are prone to hurricanes, and tornadoes regularly occur in the area of the Midwest referred to as Tornado Alley. The United States has more tornadoes than the rest of the countries of the world combined.”

The USA economy experienced tremendous growth during the Second World War, when manufacturing was at its peak.

The country is rich in mineral resources, and heavy industry continues to support the USA economy, including mining and metallurgical industries, automobile manufacturing, and chemical industries.

The USA is a federal republic.

The president is the head of state. He is also commander – in – chief of the army, air force, marines and navy.

The highest legislative body in the country is the Congress, which consists of the Senate and House of Representatives.
